Connecting with Parents

Parent communication is beneficial because it helps teachers learn more about the needs of their students as well as their home environments.  In order for this communication to take place, trust must be present between teachers and parents.  Teachers can use this information to determine how best to meet their student's needs in the classroom.

When teachers and parents communicate and have positive interactions, teachers can inform parents about how they can support their child at home by reinforcing the learning that is taking place in the classroom. Positive communication between parents and teachers can make it easier for teachers to explain problems that the student is having in the classroom and how they will be addressed.  It also encourages parents to be supportive, understanding, and more trusting of the teacher which makes them feel that their efforts are being acknowledged.

Teacher parent communication can also have a positive effect on the academic performance of the student and their parents are excited to become more engaged and involved in the classroom community.  Teachers must realize that no two families are alike therefore, they must determine the best way to make a strong and successful communication connection.
